In August, CMS accepted Kansas’ section 1115 Medicaid waiver application, and HHS gave the final green light last week. Gov. Sam Brownback said in a news release the new Medicaid program, KanCare, is a “healthcare plan that is truly what Kansas wants and needs.”
Three managed care companies — Amerigroup of Kansas, Sunflower State Health Plan and UnitedHealthcare Community Plan — will run the daily operations. Currently, the Kansas Medicaid program costs $2.9 billion per year and has 380,000 beneficiaries.
