Texamo Medical Center begins construction on $50M patient tower: 5 things to know

Texamo Medical Center broke ground Tuesday on a $50 million expansion, reports the Herald Democrat.

The Denison, Texas-based hospital will build a four-story patient tower, adding an additional 100,000 square feet of space to the campus.

Here are five things to know about the project.

1. The first floor of the facility will house an expanded emergency department. The ED's bed count will increase from 24 beds to 48 and contain a new 16-bed chest-pain unit, two more trauma rooms, a dedicated computed tomography suite and an imaging suite, according to the report.The second floor of the facility will contain an expanded 52-bed intensive care unit. The tower's third floor will house a new 12-room neonatal ICU.

2. The fourth story, which can accommodate up to 38 beds, will be left as shell space for future expansions.

3. The expansion project also includes the construction of a hangar and landing space for emergency medical helicopters, according to the report.

4. The expansion will create up to 250 new jobs at the hospital.
