The multimillion dollar project will allow Tobey Hospital’s ED to treat 40,000 patients annually. The current ED, created to treat 15,000 patients, is operating at overcapacity with more than 31,000 patients seen in 2016. The expansion will add 30 rooms.

The additional inpatient rooms will not increase the facility’s total number of beds.

Southcoast Health’s project is partially funded by its $25 million fundraising campaign.
