The new birthing center will have 24 beds, including 18 private rooms and a six-bed bay. It will also feature whirlpool tubs and a lighting system for babies born with symptoms of alcohol or drug dependence.

Construction of the birthing unit is slated to begin later this month and is expected to open in spring of 2021.
