Here are three things to know.

1. The hospital’s ED has seen a 12 percent average increase in annual patient volumes since opening in 2012.

2. The ED contains four pods — three of which are fully functional. The expansion transformed the fourth pod from unfinished shelled space into a 14-bed emergency facility to help meet the community’s increased need for emergency care.

3. Palomar Medical Center is on pace to serve more than 110,000 patients through its ED in 2018.
