The project, which includes the construction of a nine-story tower, will consolidate inpatient care within a single hospital campus. Currently, inpatient care is spread across the system’s three facilities in the market. Mercy Health’s Hackley Hospital campus, also in Muskegon, will continue to provide outpatient medical services.

The health system plans to reduce its number of licensed beds from 408 to 267, according to the report.

Mercy Health plans to demolish the existing patient tower to replace it with the new one. Hospital officials expect the construction to be complete in three years.
