Memorial Hospital plans $22M expansion

Less than a month after opening its $124 million satellite hospital in Shiloh, Ill., Belleville, Ill.-based MemorialHospital has disclosed plans for a $22 million expansion to the new facility, according to the St. Louis Business Journal.

Memorial Hospital's owner, Memorial Regional Health Services, and St. Louis-based BJC Healthcare filed a certificate of need application with the state of Illinois to build a three-story, 70,500-square-foot medical office building next door to the new Memorial Hospital East, which officially opened April 12.

Memorial Regional Health Service and BJC Healthcare's affiliation came into effect Jan. 1.

"Construction of a medical office building in Shiloh always has been a strategic priority for this site in order to support demand for outpatient services at Memorial Hospital East," Mark Turner, president of Memorial Regional Health Services, said in a statement, according to the report.

Physician practices currently in Memorial Hospital East will be relocated to the new office building, as will new physician practices and services.

The Illinois Health Facilities and Service Review Board is slated to review the CON application for the proposed medical office building at its August meeting. If approved, construction will begin later this year with completion expected in the fourth quarter of 2017, according to the report.
