Mayo to close Wisconsin clinic Jan. 1

Mayo Clinic Health System – Northland in Cameron, Wis., will close Jan. 1, according to a WQOW report.

In a statement to Becker's Hospital Review, Michele Eberle, vice chair of administration, said the move "was difficult to make, but it is necessary to help ensure quality healthcare is available for all of our patients and communities in our region."

"A low volume of patients and increasing challenges with reimbursement regulations and provider recruitment have made it difficult to sustain the practice," she added.

Ms. Eberle notes many Cameron clinic patients reside in places where other Mayo Clinic clinics are located and are able to continue to visit those locations. This includes Mayo Clinic Health System – Northland in Barron, Wis., where the medical provider from the Cameron clinic will see patients after the closure, as well as other locations in close proximity to Cameron.

"We will maintain our long history of supporting the Cameron community," Ms. Eberle said. "We look forward to continuing to serve the medical care needs of the region, and we will work with our patients to ensure a smooth transition to one of our other locations."

Employees affected by the closure will also have opportunities to work at other Mayo Clinic locations, according to the report.
