The $8 million clinic will serve as a second Lynchburg location for the Free Clinic of Central Virginia and provide immediate and primary care as well as mental health services. The clinic expects to serve approximately 3,000 patients annually.
The 19,250-square-foot building also has a pharmacy, laundry and shower facilities, conference rooms, community rooms and waiting room with seats for 40 people.
The clinic was built to provide primary care as an alternative to emergency departments, said Christina Delzingaro, CEO of Lynchburg Community Health Center. Over half the clinic’s patients are expected to be low income and uninsured.
To provide access for uninsured patients who frequently turn to the ED, the center is open seven days a week for walk-ins or scheduled appointments.
