Henderson (Nev.) Hospital is planning a 24-hour freestanding emergency department as an extension to the hospital’s current emergency facilities.

The $13 million project comprises eight rooms, three rapid medical exam rooms, imaging services and an on-site laboratory, Las Vegas Review-Journal reports. The ED will deploy Cerner’s FirstNet EHR system, which is compatible with Henderson Hospital and Las Vegas-based Valley Health System facilities.

The freestanding ED, slated to open next spring, aims to decrease wait times and treat common emergency cases.

Officials will break ground on the facility this fall.
