In a news release, the system said it is opening the medical office due to “the community’s growing need for primary care” as well as a need “to attract and retain quality physicians in the area.”

The medical office will include an initial staff of up to 15 physicians and advanced practitioners, who will join a new IU Health physician group. It is expected to be completed in 2018.

The medical office announcement comes days after IU Health announced it will open three new facilities in Fort Wayne. The system said it will also maintain a partnership with Indiana University School of Medicine — which operates a campus in Fort Wayne and seeks to expand physician training opportunities — as part of plans to expand in Fort Wayne. Indianapolis-based Riley Children’s Health also plans to open a Fort Wayne pediatric specialty care office next year.

More details on IU Health’s Fort Wayne expansion are forthcoming.
