Beaumont Children's opens new pediatric cancer center

Royal Oak, Mich.-based Beaumont Children's Hospital opened its new pediatric cancer center, doubling the size of the pediatric hematology and oncology outpatient clinic.

The Beaumont Children's Skandalaris Family Center for Children with Cancer and Blood Disorders features wide windows with natural light and calming décor. In addition, it includes seven exam rooms, a family consult room, a family pantry, shared infusion area and four private infusion rooms.

"We have so many innovative treatment options today, and we are excited to offer them in our new clinic. I hope the bright, airy, inviting space will make families feel comfortable while they're here," said Kate Gowans, MD, section head of pediatric hemotology and oncology at Beaumont Hospital.

The new cancer center is also home to the Gilbert Family Adolescent and Young Adult Program, which will provide financial counseling, psychosocial services and academic support and for adolescences and young adults ages 12 to 24.
