Baylor Scott & White plans 4-story hospital near Austin

Dallas-based Baylor Scott & White is eyeing a former golf course in Oak Hills, Texas, as the possible site for a 50-bed hospital, according to an Austin-American Statesman report.

Oak Hill Golf Range in Austin, Texas, closed May 14 and sold the 11-acre area to "make way for development of a Baylor Scott & White Hospital," according to the golf course's website. The Austin-American Statesman said the property is valued at $2.9 million.

Baylor Scott & White, in a statement to Austin-American Statesman, said it is "exploring an opportunity in southwest Austin on a piece of property located within seven miles of our newest clinics in Circle C and downtown. We've had discussions with local neighborhood residents and are participating in the entitlement process with the city… Since the project is not final, we'd prefer to share additional details at a later date. We will certainly announce specifics as our plans are confirmed."

Initial plans filed with the city of Austin proposed a more than 86,000-square-foot, four-story facility.

The hospital would be the second hospital the nonprofit health system has in Travis County.
