Aurora Health Care plans $324M healthcare complex: 5 things to know

Milwaukee-based Aurora Health Care is expanding, with plans to build a replacement hospital and new outpatient surgery center and medical office building in the greater Sheboygan, Wis., area.

Here are five things to know.

1. In a news release, Aurora said it signed a letter of intent with manufacturing company Kohler Co., which owns a 56-acre parcel where the project would be built. The property borders the Sheboygan city limits.

2. Following due diligence on the property, Aurora said it plans to enter into a lease agreement with Kohler.

3. Health system officials expect the $324 million project, which would replace the aging Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center, to bring numerous healthcare and construction jobs to the Sheboygan area.

4. "The greater Sheboygan community deserves the best, and we're committed to delivering just that – high-quality, cost-effective care," Carrie Killoran, executive vice president of Aurora's central region, which includes all of Sheboygan County, said in the release. "We've been listening to the community and, with this new site, we hope to have an opportunity to provide state-of-the-art healthcare in a convenient, central location."

5. The expected opening date for the facility is in 2021.
