Allegheny Health Network to break ground on $53M cancer institute: 3 things to know

Pittsburgh-based Allegheny Health Network is set to break ground on a $53 million academic cancer institute by March, NEXTpittsburgh reports.

Here are three things to know about the facility.

1. AHN's proposed plan comprises a four-story building, with two floors below ground and two above ground. The building will feature a colored glass façade and healing gardens.

2. The cancer center will be connected to AHN's south tower by an atrium.

3. The cancer institute is part of AHN's $200 million investment with Pittsburgh-based Highmark Health into cancer care initiatives. The investment is in partnership with Baltimore-based Johns Hopkins Medicine.
