Shakeeb Akhter is chief digital officer at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, where he leads the design and execution of enterprise digital strategy across one of the nation’s premier cancer centers.
Mr. Akhter joined MSK in 2025 after serving as senior vice president and chief digital and information officer at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, where he oversaw a digital and technology organization of roughly 550 staff, more than 500 enterprise applications, and a combined operating and capital budget exceeding $250 million.
Earlier in his career, he held IT leadership roles at Northwestern Medicine and the Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, where he led enterprise data and research informatics in partnership with the institution’s clinical and translational science program. He began his professional career in technology and consulting roles at Bank of America and KPMG.
Mr. Akhter’s work centers on enterprise artificial intelligence, clinical informatics, cybersecurity, and advanced analytics in service of digitally enabled care. He holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Illinois and a master’s in business administration from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. Across his roles, he has focused on building scalable digital platforms that connect clinical, operational, and research missions, and is recognized as a leading voice on how large health systems can operationalize emerging technologies responsibly.
