Michael Pfeffer, MD, is Senior Vice President and Chief Information and Digital Officer at Stanford Health Care in Palo Alto, Calif., where he leads the Technology and Digital Solutions organization supporting two hospitals and more than 150 clinics. He also serves as CIO and associate dean spanning Stanford Health Care and the Stanford (Calif.) University School of Medicine.
A practicing hospitalist, he is a clinical professor in the Division of Hospital Medicine with a joint appointment in biomedical informatics research, and he continues to teach medical students and residents. He previously served as assistant vice chancellor and CIO for UCLA Health Sciences Los Angeles after becoming UCLA Health’s first chief medical informatics officer. He is a leader within Stanford Medicine’s responsible-AI initiative and is affiliated with the Stanford Center for Digital Health and the Center for Artificial Intelligence in Medicine and Imaging.
His work emphasizes the responsible, clinically grounded deployment of AI and digital tools. He combines active clinical practice with enterprise technology leadership.
