Barry Stein, MD, is vice president, chief clinical innovation officer, and chief medical information officer at Hartford HealthCare, where he founded and leads the system’s Center for AI Innovation in Healthcare. A practicing vascular and interventional radiologist, he is also an assistant clinical professor at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine.
He previously served Hartford HealthCare as chief imaging informatics officer, vice chair of radiology, and chief of cardiovascular MRI and CT, and he led the development of a globally recognized enterprise imaging platform. He earned his medical degree from the University of Stellenbosch in Cape Town, South Africa, and completed radiology residency, a chief residency, and fellowships in MRI and in vascular and interventional radiology at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. He also holds an executive master’s of business administration from the MIT Sloan School of Management. His credentials include fellowships in the Society of Interventional Radiology and the American College of Radiology.
His work focuses on enterprise imaging, AI in healthcare, and building a multistakeholder ecosystem to validate and clinically integrate digital health innovations. He serves as an advisor to the healthcare venture capital community and is a frequent national speaker on enterprise imaging and applied healthcare AI.
