The 48-year-old Naples man brought a friend who had sustained a leg injury to Physicians Regional at approximately 3 a.m. Sunday, according to a Collier County Sheriff’s Office report.
The report said the man became verbally aggressive after hospital staff informed him the emergency room was full. After a hospital security guard responded, the man reportedly pushed and “chest bumped” the security guard when he was asked to leave. The guard noticed the man had a gun and that his hand was on its grip.
The guard and another employee who helped the guard bring the man to the ground were able to take the gun away from the man.
The man was charged with battery on the security of a hospital’s emergency department and introduction of an unlawful article into a hospital.
