Yousuf Ahmad, DrPH. Divisional Senior Vice President and Chief Network Transformation Officer of Mercy Health (Cincinnati). Dr. Ahmad, who has been with Mercy Health since 2004, is responsible for transforming the delivery and implementation of primary and specialty care throughout the system’s central division, including its physician offices, hospitals, home health and other services. Dr. Ahmad also leads the division’s accountable care organization, patient-centered medical home and initiatives under the Medicare Shared Savings Program. Prior to his current role, Dr. Ahmad served as the divisional senior vice president and president of Mercy Health Physicians.
David Pate, MD, JD. President and CEO of St. Luke’s Health System (Boise, Idaho). Since he joined St. Luke’s in September 2009, Dr. Pate has been instrumental in the health system’s growth and quality improvements. The system includes three community hospitals, three critical access hospitals and the state’s only children’s hospital. Previously, Dr. Pate held executive positions with St. Luke’s Episcopal Health System in Houston.
Carlos Prietto, MD. CEO of Hoag Orthopedic Institute (Irvine, Calif.). Dr. Prietto is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon. Prior to his current appointment, Dr. Prietto served as the managing partner of the Orthopaedic Specialty Institute of Orange County. The Hoag Orthopedic Institute is a 70-bed facility with nine operating rooms, all designed and equipped specifically for orthopedic cases. The institute is one of three clinical centers to create a pilot registry for joint replacement patients, called the California Joint Registry.
Award nominees previously highlighted
W. Brian Gibler, MD. Dr. Gibler has led the 397-bed University of Cincinnati Health Medical Center since October 2010. Backed with an extensive and distinguished clinical career, Dr. Gibler also serves as vice president of UC Health and is well-equipped to lead a system that includes the largest physician group in the Cincinnati area.
Tim Colburn. Mr. Colburn is the president and CEO of Berger Health System in Circleville, Ohio. He previously served as the system’s CFO and as CEO of the system’s flagship, Berger Hospital.
Alan Channing. Mr. Channing has served as president and CEO of Sinai Health System in Chicago for more than seven years. Sinai Health includes Mount Sinai Hospital, Sinai Children’s Hospital, Urban Sinai Health Institute and Schwab Rehabilitation Hospital.
Wayne Smith. Mr. Smith is the chairman, president and CEO of Community Health Systems in Franklin, Tenn. Mr. Smith joined CHS in 1997 and is one of its most tenured executives.
Allen Weiss, MD. Dr. Weiss was appointed president and CEO of NCH Healthcare System, a 715-bed, two-hospital integrated healthcare system in Naples, Fla., in September 2006.
Tom Dolan, PhD, FACHE, CAE. Dr. Dolan is the president and CEO of the American College of Healthcare Executives, an international professional society of more than 40,000 healthcare executives who lead hospitals, healthcare systems and other healthcare organizations. He was recently named to Becker’s 2012 edition of “50 of the Most Powerful People in Healthcare.”
Ralph de la Torre, MD. As chairman and CEO of Steward Health Care System in Boston, Dr. de la Torre oversees 10 hospitals, more than 14,000 employees and other affiliated entities, such as a home healthcare company. He became CEO of Caritas Christi Health Care in 2008 and continued to lead the system after it was sold in November 2010.
Pamela Davis. Ms. Davis has led Edward Hospital & Health Services in Naperville, Ill., as president and CEO since 1988. She also played an integral role in a five-year investigation that led to the arrest and imprisonment of former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich and other state officials.
Teri Fontenot. Ms. Fontenot is president and CEO of Woman’s Hospital in Baton Rouge, La. — the only freestanding, non-profit women’s hospital in the United States — and she is also the chair of the American Hospital Association’s board of trustees.
H. Stephen Lieber, CAE. Mr. Lieber has served as president and CEO of Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society, since 2000. Founded in 1961, HIMSS is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving healthcare quality and access through the best use of healthcare IT and management systems. The society includes more than 35,000 individual members. He was recently named to Becker’s 2012 edition of “50 of the Most Powerful People in Healthcare.”
