Disruptors

The Big Four tech companies — Alphabet, Amazon, Apple and Microsoft — are accelerating their pursuits of the healthcare market, and they're starting to hone their strategies and stake corners within the industry.

Kristen Helton, PhD, general manager and director of Amazon Care, is taking time away from the tech giant's primary healthcare initiative as it acquires One Medical, Bloomberg reported Aug. 11.

From plans to acquire a primary care company for $3.9 billion to developing an FDA trial for cancer vaccinations, Amazon is continuing to increase its healthcare presence.

From acquiring primary care companies to inking new partnerships with health systems, big tech companies and disruptors have made several moves in healthcare throughout the month of July.

Amazon's plan to buy One Medical for $3.9 billion will give the retailer a larger foothold in selling healthcare services to employers, an arena the company entered in 2019, the Wall Street Journal reported July 22.
