University Hospitals Ventures

Cleveland-based University Hospitals launched UH Ventures around 18 months ago to help drive innovation within the health system. The investment arm already has several projects underway and a portfolio that includes Conversa, a conversation platform that can provide patients information about chronic diseases, and riskLD, a spinout from University Hospitals developed to automate algorithms in labor and delivery.

The investment arm is focused on technology commercialization and investing and co-developing commercial innovation with strategic partners. It invests in four core areas: population health, clinical tools, business tools and patient-as-consumer.

In August, University Hospitals received a $1 million grant from the Ohio Opioid Technology Challenge after UH Ventures created UH Care Continues, a logistics technology that supports patients transitioning out of the hospital and provides opioid surveillance and real-time tracking.
