US among global leaders in cybersecurity, report finds

Though the U.S. ranks just outside of the top 10 nations with the highest digital quality of life, it is among the top three in cybersecurity efforts, according to a new report from online security provider Surfshark.

In compiling the Digital Quality of Life report, Surfshark measured the "Global Cybersecurity Index" of each of the 65 nations studied. This index illustrates how prepared each country is to address cyber threats and attacks on a national level — including the implementation of regulations and technologies specifically for the protection of web users — which has been shown to correlate with citizens' overall well-being.

The countries with the five highest cybersecurity indexes, in descending order, are the U.K., U.S., France, Lithuania and Estonia. According to the report, these nations' high scores can largely be attributed to having in place strong legal and organizational regulations, "indicating operational readiness to cope with potential cyber threats."
