Under the settlement, Quest Diagnostic will pay $195,000 to patients as a reimbursement for any monetary loses. The company will issue separate payments for any patients whose HIV test results were disclosed. Approximately 34,000 patients were affected.
In 2016, Quest Diagnostic confirmed that an unauthorized third party had accessed patient data through its web application. The data that was affected included names, dates of birth, lab results and telephone numbers. No Social Security numbers, insurance information or credit card numbers were affected.
Patients who filed the case will release all existing claims they have against Quest Diagnostic regarding the data breach.
