In an Oct. 25 update, the medical school and affiliated physician group said that while their clinics are open and pharmacies are operating with limited capacity, clinicians have been unable to receive faxes since Sept. 29 and can’t respond to patient portal messages.

“We are working diligently to restore operations to full functionality,” the update said. “We do not currently have a timeframe as to when this will occur.”

The IT outage affects systems shared with Lubbock-based University Medical Center, which has been dealing with a ransomware attack. However, a spokesperson for that hospital told Becker’s it’s unknown if the events are related.

Meanwhile, Texas Tech phone lines have been experiencing intermittent outages, while Amarillo (Texas) patients are still unable to view their medical records via the patient portal, the update said.

At the Becker's 11th Annual IT + Revenue Cycle Conference: The Future of AI & Digital Health, taking place September 14–17 in Chicago, healthcare executives and digital leaders from across the country will come together to explore how AI, interoperability, cybersecurity, and revenue cycle innovation are transforming care delivery, strengthening financial performance, and driving the next era of digital health.
