Hacker breaches Baptist Health hospital

A hacker accessed the IT network of a Baptist Health hospital in Arkansas and may have stolen patient data.

Baptist Health Medical Center-Drew County in Monticello, Ark., said it was alerted to unusual activity on its network July 8 and discovered that an unauthorized party had accessed the system between April 22 and July 8. The hospital is part of Little Rock, Ark.-based Baptist Health.

The hacker may have viewed or taken files containing patients’ names, addresses, dates of birth, diagnoses, treatments, and provider names.

The medical center started notifying affected patients Aug. 30. The hospital reported to HHS that 5,207 individuals were involved.
