The medical center took its IT network offine and closed its patient care operations May 1 to contain the attack, it said in a May 2 news release. The facility said it planned to open “on a limited basis” May 3.
“Preserving sensitive patient and employee information is of the utmost importance to MMC, but like so many other organizations around the country and despite its best efforts, MMC has found itself as the target of criminals attempting to steal personal or company data,” CEO Joey Peay said in the release. “I want to thank our patients and employees for their understanding and patience while we work to make sure our computer infrastructure is secure and free of any harmful software.”
The medical center said it has not confirmed whether any patient or employee’s information was breached in the hack.
