Brigham and Women's Hospital newsletter revealed 880 recipient emails

An October newsletter emailed from Boston-based Brigham and Women's Hospital inadvertently revealed the emails of its 880 recipients, the hospital said.

Three details:

1. The newsletter, from the hospital's anticoagulation management service, was sent to 880 recipients Oct. 13 without blinding the email addresses. No other health information was included in the email.

2. Brigham and Women's Hospital notified affected individuals because some of the email addresses also displayed first and last names. The email did not reveal whether recipients were caregivers or patients, the hospital said.

3. The hospital said it reviewed the process for sending the newsletter and retrained those responsible for sending them.
