In 2019, the Federal Aviation Administration launched 146 investigations into incidents of unruly passenger behavior on U.S. flights. By July 6, 2021, the FAA had launched 540 investigations into unruly passenger behavior — more than three times the number for 2019 despite lower traveler volume, according to The Economist.
