West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital, BCBS of Louisiana Reach Anesthesia Agreement After 6 Months

West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital in Sulphur, La., is the first in the Lake Charles area to have anesthesia services covered in-network by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana after nearly six months of being out of network, according to a report in the Southwest Daily News.

Anesthesia services have been out-of-network since Jan. 2010 at WCCH, costing patients an additional $500-$1,000 for anesthesia on top of co-payments and deductibles, according to the report. Officials from the hospital said complaints from patients about the charge forced them to be aggressive in negotiations with BCBS.

Other payors are still out of network for anesthesia services at WCCH, but the hospital is currently negotiating contracts with them.
