A new proposed amendment sponsored by Service Employees International Union-United Healthcare Workers West would force annual pay for Arizona health system executives, administrators and managers to remain at or below $450,000. The proposal claims CEO pay is “inconsistent with the provision of high-quality, affordable medical care” and that the additional funds could instead be used to “expand access to affordable medical care for all Arizonans.”
Meanwhile, the Arizona Chamber of Commerce and Industry disagrees with the proposal, which would be called the “Hospital Executive Compensation Act” if approved. The chamber claims a correctly formed campaign committee didn’t exist when the proposal gained its 281,000 support signatures. In a statement, chamber President and CEO Glenn Hamer claimed, “Capping compensation prevents Arizona industries from being able to compete for and retain top talent,” according to the report.
