Dallas-based Tenet CEO Saum Sutaria, MD, was paid 406 times more than the health system’s median employee in 2024, according to a proxy statement filed April 11 with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
The 2024 annual total compensation of Tenet’s median-competed employee was $60,698. Dr. Sutaria’s total compensation was $24,661,553.
Tenet identified the median compensated employee using total gross wages earned during calendar year 2024 for all employees who were employed for all of the year. Pay was annualized for permanent employees not employed for a full year in 2024. The heath system had approximately 98,000 employees as of Dec. 31. The system excluded about 4,129 employees based in the Philippines, as permitted by SEC rules.
After Dr. Sutaria, Tenet’s highest earners in 2024 were Chief Administrative Officer and general counsel Tom Arnst, and Executive Vice President of Commercial Operations Lisa Foo. They were paid $5,818,358 and $5,161,510, respectively.
The SEC requires public companies to disclose how CEO pay stacks up with the median employee’s overall compensation each year.
In 2023, Tenet’s CEO-to-worker pay ratio was 305 to 1.
