Another big year for CEO pay

CEO compensation at S&P 500 companies rose 9.7% in 2024, according to an annual study from Equilar and The Associated Press.

The May 29 analysis includes CEOs who served at an S&P 500 company for at least two years and whose company filed a proxy statement between Jan. 1 and April 30.

The median total compensation for the CEOs in the study was $17.1 million in 2024 — a nearly 10% increase from 2023. The prior year saw a large jump, with compensation rising 12.6% from 2022.

Stock awards made up the largest portion of pay, accounting for 71.6% of median compensation.
