SEIU Supports Legislative Cap on Executive Pay at California's El Camino Hospital

The Service Employees International Union-United Healthcare Workers plans to support a ballot initiative that would cap the compensation of top executives at El Camino Hospital in Mountain View, Calif., according to a Mountain View Voice report.

Recently hired CEO Tomi Ryba stands to make $695,000 per year plus bonuses. The SEIU-UHW said cuts to other employees' benefits, health coverage and overtime pay accompanied by the executive compensation packages have led to their support of the cap, according to the report.

In response, hospital officials have said it "applies its salary and benefit policies to all employees equally based on market data," according to the report.

The measure is slated to be on the Nov. 2012 ballot.
