The county needs to verify all signatures, and the process is expected to take a month, according to the report. If the county finds there at least 9,100 valid signatures, a measure would be placed on the ballot, asking voters if they want to restrict El Camino Hospital executive salaries to no more than twice the salary of the governor, which was $173,987 in 2011.
In response to the initiative, El Camino Hospital will hold two community forums to discuss how the hospital works and to take any questions from the public. The hospital’s lawyers are also “looking into not only the legality of [the measure], but also ensuring the signatures are valid and appropriate,” said hospital spokesperson Chris Ernst in the report.
