“Candidly, when you support women, you support people of color, you’re more creative, more innovative, and most importantly, more profitable,” said Massachusetts state Treasurer Deb Goldberg, who announced the program Jan. 24.

Here are four things to know about the program.

1. To offer the workshops, Massachusetts is partnering with community colleges, the American Association of University Women and the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women.

2. The state has 150 free workshops planned for this year and aims to reach at least 5,000 workers. Beginning in March, the state’s 15 community colleges will hold the workshops.

3. The workshops will help women develop strategies to ask for a raise and calculate their worth in terms of pay and benefits.

4. The program, called “Just Ask!” expands on similar initiatives in Boston, which has offered women free salary negotiation workshops to over 6,000 women since fall 2015.
