Maine Hospital Eliminates 76 Positions

Eastern Maine Medical Center (EMMC) in Bangor is eliminating 76 positions, 24 of which are occupied, as the organization endeavors to reduce operating costs, according to a memo sent to EMMC employees.

In the memo, the hospital said that it is eliminating 52 vacant positions, 24 occupied positions, reducing overtime and delaying some capital improvements in an effort to respond to challenges posed by insurance reimbursement and the economic recession.

Operational evaluation teams will be created in February to assist EEMC with its goal of making cuts while not degrading the quality of the care it offers, according to a news release. These teams will reassess everything from EEMC’s capital purchases and projects to leadership structures.
