John Henley, MD, chairman of the Cape Fear Valley board of trustees said no other private, non-profit health systems make CEO pay a public discussion topic, and the practice was a remnant from when Cape Fear Valley was publicly owned. He also said public discussion of compensation only “sells newspapers, and it created varying levels of angst, for lack of a better word,” according to the report.
Current Cape Fear Valley CEO Mike Nagowski has a base salary of $534,732 and an incentive bonus of $189,669, which was approved in March.
