IPs are hospital and clinic employees who direct interventions with the ultimate goal of protecting patients from healthcare-associated infections in healthcare settings, according to the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology.

However, the $71,395 average IP salary is still much higher than 2005 average of $57,375. The survey fielded responses from 253 IPs, and although the average salary is slightly lower from last year, 91.2 percent reported they feel either “very secure” or “somewhat secure” in their positions.
