For the report, researchers examined data on 27,000 physician job listings posted on Doximity in 2018-19 for the top 50 metropolitan areas in the U.S. They also analyzed self-reported compensation survey data from more than 70,000 licensed U.S. physicians and 7,500 nurses who practice at least 40 hours a week between 2018 and 2019.
The 10 cities where physician compensation grew the most year over year:
- New Orleans — 10 percent pay growth
- Cincinnati — 9 percent
- Ann Arbor, Mich. — 3 percent
- Hartford, Conn. — 3 percent
- Riverside, Calif. — 3 percent
- Baltimore — 2 percent
- Atlanta — 2 percent
- Rochester, N.Y. — 2 percent
- Minneapolis — 1 percent
- Charleston, S.C. — 1 percent
