The partnership is intended to keep patients at facilities in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula as opposed to downstate or Wisconsin hospitals. The two facilities lose approximately $100 million annually from patients traveling outside the area for care, according to the report.
Under the partnership, the hospitals will work together to recruit physicians to the facilities and will work together as a non-profit corporation called Superior Health Partners.
The two hospitals hope to recruit other Upper Peninsula hospitals to join Superior health Partners, according to the report.
