Two of the basic facets of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act are the Medicaid expansion and health insurance exchanges, both of which will significantly expand health coverage to millions of Americans. Reps. Upton and Pitts said several attempts have been made to gain clarity on issues through separate letters from the Republican Governors Association and the National Association of Medicaid Directors, and they asked CMS respond to the issues presented in those letters no later than Sept. 3.
“While it seems CMS intends to delay any major announcements until after November, states do not have the luxury of procrastination,” according to the letter. “They deserve and need to have the necessary information from your agency to make an informed decision about whether or not to move forward in implementing the President’s healthcare law.”
