Of the 1,309 registered medical cannabis patients, half use the treatment for a seizure disorder, according to state data. About one in four of the patients are children and another 33 percent are age 50 and up.
More than 300 physicians have registered to certify patients for medical marijuana, according to the state’s Department of Public Health. In Georgia, possession of medical cannabis oil is allowed for eight diagnoses: ALS, seizure disorders related to epilepsy or trauma related head injuries, multiple sclerosis, Crohn’s disease, mitochondrial disease, Parkinson’s disease and sickle cell disease.
