Hospital officials said increased demand for services in those areas prompted the expansion plan. As a result, the emergency department will eventually house six more treatment bays, bringing its current number from 15 to 21.
In addition, four private rooms primarily dedicated to C-section postpartum recovery will be added to accommodate the growing number of patients delivering babies. An operating room also will be added to maternity suites and will be reserved mainly for scheduled and emergency C-sections.
The expansion should be completed by fall 2012.
