For the survey, Sermo polled 515 U.S. physicians from 27 specialties on their opinions about the nation’s obesity epidemic and nutritional trends.

Three other survey findings:

1. About 80 percent identified environmental factors, such as fast food and high screen time, as the main cause of the nation’s high obesity rate.

2. Eighty-five percent of physicians think insurers should cover overweight patients’ dietician visits.

3. Physicians cited the Mediterranean diet as the best to follow for long-term health (51 percent), compared to other diet trends like Whole 30 (5 percent) or ketogenic (5 percent).
