Essentia Health-Fosston (Minn.) is increasing its emergency department space fivefold with a new $12 million investment.

The expansion will take the ED from 1,100 square feet to 6,700 square feet, according to a March 26 system news release. The addition will improve patient flow and confidentiality, employee and patient safety, infection control, EMS access and overall efficiency.

The new addition will also include a new ambulance bay, rooms for patients needing behavioral healthcare, a new registration desk and updated equipment.

The project is expected to be completed in early spring 2027.

At the Becker's 11th Annual IT + Revenue Cycle Conference: The Future of AI & Digital Health, taking place September 14–17 in Chicago, healthcare executives and digital leaders from across the country will come together to explore how AI, interoperability, cybersecurity, and revenue cycle innovation are transforming care delivery, strengthening financial performance, and driving the next era of digital health.
