Bakersfield, Calif.-based Kern Medical opened a pediatric emergency department Nov. 12.
The new unit contains four dedicated pediatric treatment rooms equipped with cardiac monitoring and pediatric-sized medical equipment. The project was funded by the California Health Facilities Financing Authority.
Kern Medical’s trauma center is one of the busiest in California, with pediatric patients accounting for more than 10% of visits, according to a Nov. 11 news release.
The pediatric ED is part of Kern Medical’s broader efforts to expand pediatric services in the region. In recent years, the 222-bed hospital has also invested in a new neonatal intensive care unit, inpatient pediatric unit and pediatric hospitalists, among other efforts.
