HR 2350, the Preserving Patient Access to Primary Care Act of 2009, calls for scholarships and loan repayment programs and proposes changes to the Medicare reimbursement system in order to “sustain and enhance” primary care practices, according to the report.
According to a study by the American Medical Association in 2008, primary care providers had the lowest mean salary ($185,740) and the lowest percentage of filled medical residency positions (42.1 percent) among U.S. medical school graduates.
