Yesterday, the hospital still struggled to remove two-and-a-half feet of water from its basement after already pumping out 17 million gallons of water. The ongoing flooding caused fuel pumps — and the hospital’s backup power generators — to fail, leaving the hospital with no power source.
Bellevue Hospital has evacuated more than 400 patients since Hurricane Sandy ravaged the East Coast late last month. Area hospitals, including St. Luke’s Hospital, Roosevelt Hospital and Mount Sinai Hospital, have offered to take in the remaining Bellevue evacuees.
