The renovation, which was approved in 2010, added 27 patient care rooms and increased the ER’s size by almost 17 percent.
The opening of the new adult unit marks the final stage of the project, which also expanded the triage, arrival and waiting areas as well as the system’s psychiatric emergency services area. U-M Health opened its new women’s and children’s facility earlier this week; the system now operates separate pediatric and adult emergency departments.
